Ludmilla – NTR / Microphone Media
Mixing/mastering of the music recordings and mixing/mastering of the episodes
While train wagons were departing weekly from Kamp Westerbork to the gas chambers in the East, camp commander Gemmeker believed the prisoners needed distraction. He allowed Jewish artists and musicians to organize evenings full of cabaret, in exchange for a postponement of their deportation. But in June 1944, these Jewish prisoners wrote and composed a real opera, called Ludmilla. Immediately after the premiere, Gemmeker banned the opera, and the Jewish performers were sent on transport.
In the four-part podcast Ludmilla, journalist Frank Kromer uncovers that there is more to the story of Ludmilla than initially thought.
For this special NTR podcast, I had the privilege, under the commission of Microphone Media, to mix the music recorded at Kamp Westerbork, where a group of musicians brought the opera back to life. I also handled the mixing and mastering and some subtle sound design of the podcast episodes.
It was an impressive project to be a part of!
